Euan Stewart

London, United Kingdom

Euan’s print series, “Liberation,” delves into the fragility of the human condition through abstracted figures that serve as universal templates. These figures, depicted in anatomic poses reminiscent of x-rays or CT scans, invite viewers to imprint their own experiences and identities upon them. The prints embody a fascinating contradiction—blurred, duplicated, and distorted, yet rendered with surgical precision; anonymous yet relatable; universal yet specific; unsexed yet gendered.

Central to Euan’s technique is the use of washi, traditional Japanese paper, which is integral not just as a medium but as a conduit for connection between the viewer and the print.

Euan specializes in drawing and relief printmaking, creating linocut prints that symbolize the balance between individual identity and shared human experience. His works invite the viewer to project their own sense of self, resonating with themes of separation and communion. With a background from Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Brighton, Euan has exhibited widely, from the RA Summer Exhibition to the Awagami Print Exhibition in Japan. His award-winning works are part of prestigious collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum and Wellcome Collection in London, and the Fabriano Museum in Italy.
